On behalf of City Council and the community, I am delighted to welcome you to the 119th annual Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede.
This year’s IPE theme is Sheep Thrills at the IPE. It is with great enthusiasm that Armstrong opens its doors to celebrate BC’s premiere agricultural tradition.
All ages will enjoy the parade, competitions, interactive displays, the spectacular rodeo, and the down home charm of both the fair and our community.
An entire year goes into preparing for the annual IPE and it couldn’t be possible without the dedication of the volunteers, organizers, residents, businesses, and societies of all kinds.
There is no place like home when you live, work and play in the Heart of Country, Armstrong, BC. Come and experience “Pride of our Past, Spirit of our Present, and Vision of our Future.”
Chris Pieper, Mayor
Welcome residents and visitors to the 119th annual IPE and Stampede. This year’s IPE theme, Sheep Thrills, inspired by our local Armstrong and Spallumcheen agricultural community, truly encompasses much of what the Township is about.
Over half of our large rural land base is located and designated farm land within the Agricultural Land Reserve. We are thrilled to be honouring our sheep farmers this year and hope you enjoy the many proud displays of local sheep, dairy, chicken, beef, pork, vegetables, and other food sources, all celebrating the sheep division in their own special way. We wish you much joy as you take in the rides, treats and excitement of the exhibition and hope that you find contentment in the beautiful farming landscapes that we call home.
Janice Brown, Mayor
The Fair is an exciting and fun filled experience combining agricultural education and promotion of the farmer, and is brought to you by the enthusiasm of over 450 volunteers.
I would like to congratulate Patti Thomas, Executive Director at the IPE who
was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award for her tireless volunteering
and heading up one of light horse division. Well done and well deserved.
We bring you the agricultural equipment of our local suppliers, farm products from the seed to the apple pie, from the sheep to the woolen products. You can visit the dairy cow and follow it up with an ice cream or visit the exhibitors of the best beef cattle in Canada. Check out the baby chicks and bunny rabbits through to the heavy horse and with good timing see a calf being born. See five full days of light horse events, mini chuck wagon races and heavy horse pulls.
Enjoy the fun and excitement of the West Coast Amusements midway, with rides for the kids through to the thrill seekers. Have lunch at the food court while enjoying the music of the Ram Truck stage and take in the exhibits of the Norval Centre.
You can end your visit with thrills and spills at the Professional Tour Rodeo with the Calgary Stampede as the official stock contractor, and kick up your heels at the Barn Dance on Friday and Saturday night.
I wish to thank you to our many sponsors, our Directors and volunteers, as well as the communities of Spallumcheen and Armstrong, for all the work and support that makes our fair possible.
This year we salute the Sheep Division with flocks of SHEEP THRILLS.
The Armstrong Fair is a family oriented agricultural Fair at its best. You do not want to miss it!
We have exciting new things to look forward to this year. New vendors, attractions,
and entertainment for all audiences. The family fun will continue at the IPE with
many opportunities to experience agriculture at its finest: goat milking,
moo-turnity, swine exhibit, llama costume, beef and dairy shows, rabbit and poultry showing, everything sheep from shearing to showing. Heavy horse and light horse are always wonderful classes to watch. Don’t forget about the mini chuckwagon races and the rodeo!
The RAM Truck stage could see some of your old favourites from years gone by! Elvis might be in the house!
Kids World won’t disappoint, we have a wonderful 3D experience for all ages as well as entertainment on the Kids World stage, Gold Pan Dan, Petting Zoo and more!
Plan to come to the NorVal Arena to see all the exhibits from folks like you. Quilts, baked goods, Lego, photography, honey, wine, vegetables, fruits, floral, baking, canning, field and seed. You have to see what creative and wonderful things your friends, neighbours and relatives have on display!
The future of farming are the kids in the 4 H program. This is a must see for sure. These kids take on the responsibilities of raising animals, cultivating food and more. If you haven’t participated in or watched the 4 H auction you must come and see it. These kids are selling their swine/lambs they have nurtured and now it’s time to go to market! You could buy one and keep it or donate it back to a charity and it will be auctioned off again. 4 H AUCTION – Friday, August 31, 2018 5:00 – 7:00 pm.
A very special thank you to all our staff, sponsors, partners, members, exhibitors, entertainers, suppliers, retailers, vendors and volunteers that ensure the traditions continue and new memories are made when the fair comes to town.
Have a fabulous experience at the 119th Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede and thank you for being part of this grand tradition.
