Press Release - Interior Provincial Exhibition Driving Routes

Last year with a record attendance during the 5-day event, it just so happens that this “Fall Fair and Rodeo” takes place during the last long weekend of the Okanagan summer, so there are many more vehicles than usual, using our highways. This year, there is also road construction on Highway 97A, the main highway to Armstrong. For those wanting to attend the IPE that would like to avoid traffic delays, there are alternate routes to choose from.

#1, Heading north on Highway 97A
  • Take Otter Lake Cross Road /Larkin Cross Road Exit off Highway 97A.
  • Go around the first traffic circle; exit the second circle at the Otter Lake Cross Road.
  • Follow Otter Lake Cross Road, then turn right onto Otter Lake Road.
  • Carry on to the OTTER LAKE/IPE PARKING LOT. If it is full then, follow OTTER LAKE
  • ROAD to WOOD AVENUE. Turn right, drive to the ROTARY PARKING LOT (by the IPE Office).
“This is the best option and the most scenic” said IPE President Shirley Fowler. “It may add a slightly more driving time but you should be able to park faster than staying the highway and exiting on the main Smith Drive turn into Armstrong.”

If you miss the Otter Lake Road/Larkin turn off then proceed to the next exit.

#2, Heading north on Highway 97A -
  • Turn LEFT, off Highway 97A, at the Spallumcheen Industrial Park onto SPALLUMCHEEN DRIVE, then turn left onto CROZIER ROAD. Turn right onto OTTER LAKE CROSS ROAD, then right onto OTTER LAKE ROAD. Carry on to the OTTER LAKE PARKING LOT.
  • If it is full then, follow OTTER LAKE ROAD to WOOD AVENUE. Turn right, drive to the ROTARY PARKING LOT (by the IPE Office.)
There will be directional signs to follow once you have turned off Highway 97, until you arrive at the Otter Lake Cross Road.

We want the experience of attending the fair to be a fun from the moment you leave your home, so take your time, try these alternative routes. Go to the IPE website, www.armstrongipe.com for complete maps and information.

Saturday is Parade Day and the highway is very busy. The parade starts at 10am so give yourself extra time to ensure you don’t miss one of the best parades in the province!”, said Bryan Burns, IPE General Manager. We are expecting over 100 entries and this makes for and enjoyable start to our Saturday Dodge Day!

The Interior Provincial Exhibition will be going into it’s 113th year which will be held from Wednesday August 29th to Sunday September 2nd, 2012.

Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede (IPE), Armstrong, B.C.
Aug. 29 – Sept. 2

In 1909, if you entered your four best pigs in the Armstrong Fall Exhibition you stood to win $7.50 for first place. Today, those porkers will net you 10 bucks. Blame tradition and exhibitor pride. Nobody’s in it for the money. The IPE’s been doling out down-home fun for more than 110 years. It’s one of the few surviving authentic agricultural fairs across Canada, with a long history of local dedication. When times were tough and attendance dwindled, organizers refused to let their fair die. It became “The Little Fair That Could”. Today the IPE is one of the largest agricultural fairs in Canada....
